1. Rosemary and Coconut Oil Hair Mask
Rosemary is known for its ability to stimulate hair follicles to produce new hair, while coconut oil is known for its hair conditioning properties.
Just mix 2 tsp. of rosemary leaves and ¾ cup of coconut oil and heat them in a saucepan for around 25 minutes in low heat. Stir frequently to avoid burning the coconut oil. Strain the mixture and put in a small container. Add one tsp. of Vitamin E oil if you have some.
Apply on wet hair with a comb and cover hair with a shower cap. You can leave it for an hour to overnight depending on your preference. Once you’re ready to wash, rinse hair with warm water. Keep the leftover hair mask in the fridge. The shelf life for this is around 10 days.
2. Egg and Olive Oil Hair Mask
Egg and olive oil are both high in fat, which makes them good hair moisturizers. In addition, the protein in egg yolk also helps strengthen the hair.
Start by separating the egg yolk from the egg white. Usually, one egg yolk will do. But if you have long hair, you might as well use two yolks for this hair mask. Once the yolk is separated, mix 1 tsp. of olive oil (per egg yolk). Blend well and apply on hair.
Gently massage the hair mask on your hair. If you think that you’ve covered everything, cover your hair with a shower cap. You can leave it on for at least an hour. Rinse with lukewarm water as hot water can easily cook the egg (we don’t want that to happen!).
This is a hair mask that I tried a while back and I must admit, it made my hair softer and more moisturized. I can still feel the effect 3 days after applying the hair mask. But I told my sister to try it out and unfortunately, it didn’t have the same effect, so she tried other hair masks instead. But yes, what may work for me may not work for you, but it is worth a try.
3. Aloe Vera and Essential Oils Hair Mask
Aloe Vera is one of our hair’s best friends. It offers so many benefits like promoting hair growth, hair conditioning, and even helping get rid of dandruff.
In a small bowl, mix 4 oz. Aloe Vera gel with 4 oz. water and stir lightly. Pour the mixture into a jar or spray bottle and shake well. You can add five to ten drops of your favorite essential oil into the mixture.
For the application, simply spray onto the hair whenever you like. This is a great hair mask for people who suffer from hair thinning and hair fall.
4. Honey and Olive Oil Hair Mask
Both honey and olive oil are emollient ingredients, which mean that they’re great for sealing moisture in the hair. Packed with antioxidant properties, this hair mask will strengthen the hair, helping it prevent hair fall and other types of hair damage.
Mix 5 tbsp. of olive oil and a few drop of honey together in a small bowl. Whisk until you get the hair mask consistency that you prefer.
Apply the mixture on damp hair and make sure the hair mask is distributed evenly. Cover hair with a shower cap for at least 90 minutes. For rinsing, use shampoo and lukewarm water to clean the hair mask from your hair completely.
We always have honey at home so this was an easy hair mask for me to make. I loved the effect on my hair; my hair was softer and more manageable. However, I’ve read that there are people who are allergic to honey so if you’re one of those, please don’t try this anymore even if it’s just on your hair. There are other hair masks you can try. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
5. Lemon and Olive Oil Hair Mask

For rinsing, use cool water and shampoo. If you can’t stand the smell of onion, you can always add a few drops of your favorite essential oil into the mixture.
For this hair mask, I have a friend who can vouch for the effectiveness. Although she did tell me that the onion juice was cringy at first so she put a few drops of rosemary into the mix and it helped make the smell bearable. She loved the result but also admits that it’s not for everybody. I heard that her mom didn’t enjoy the same effects.

11. Beer and Banana Hair Mask
Using beer for the hair can sound unconventional, but it does work! The protein in beer helps repair hair damage, while the Vitamin B helps with hair growth. Additionally, the maltose and sucrose in beer also help strengthen the hair and tighten hair cuticles.
